Qimusseq by Glenn Gear and AneMarie Ottosen

NAPA wishes everyone a peaceful Holiday by sharing the artwork Qimmusseq, which can function as a mental break for those experiencing it.
Thank you to Glenn Gear and AneMarie Ottosen for letting us share their work both during the Suialaa Arts Festival in Nuuk and now online with everyone.

Qimusseq is an animated artwork, created in close collaboration between Glenn Gear (animation) and AneMarie Ottosen’s own story (script and speech). The work was created for the Suialaa Arts Festival 2025 and shows Canada and Kalaallit Nunaat’s connection to each other through the sled dogs.

The story is told first in Kalaallisut and then in English. The English version starts at 6:42.

Glenn Gear is an Indigiqueer filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist of mixed Inuit heritage currently living in Montréal. He is originally from Corner Brook Newfoundland and has family throughout Nunatsiavut. His practice is grounded in research-creation shaped by Inuit and Indigenous ways of learning and knowing – often employing the use of animation, photography, archives, painting, and work with traditional materials such as sealskin and beads.

AneMarie Ottosen is 43 years old and from Nuuk. She is a teacher, actress, playwright and storyteller with extensive experience in radio, TV, film and theater.
