On the conference, the participants presented their way of giving children and youth the opportunity to practice culture, and we discussed how we can learn from good examples, across the Nordic boarders.

Some of the main conclusions, were that we need to cooperate more and get a more equal distribution of both resourceful and unresourceful children in the cultural schools. One way of accomodating this need, is a Venezuelan music system, El Sistema, with the purpose of involving children and youth from socially or economically disadvantaged families, in a musical community. The system is widely succesful in Sweden and several participants on the conference want to implement something similar in their home countries.

Gender equality in cultural schools was also debated and it was discussed how we can get a more even balance between genders in the different genres in culture. F.i. dance is highly dominated by girls, while media attracts more boys.

The event was organized in cooperation with SMoK - Sweden's Council of Music- and Culture Schools.
